Match Report

Today, Argentina faced Venezuela in the World Cup Qualifiers of the South America Zone. Venezuela have hosted the match at La Bombonera. Lionel Scaloni, the manager of Argentina, didn’t get the service of some regular starters, such as Emiliano Martinez, Lautaro Martinez, and Cristian Romero. So the manager made some changes in the squad. He set the team formation with 4-2-3–1. On the other side, Venezuela’s manager played his team in a 5-3-2 formation.

However, the home team played a very physical game in the first half. They have made a lot of fouls in the entire game. But that couldn’t stop Argentina from scoring goals. They took the lead in the 35th minute as Nicolas Gonzalez scored a goal with the help of Rodrigo De Paul. The home team couldn’t equalize in the first half.

Returning from the break, the Albiceleste played better football. They dominated everywhere on the pitch. They could have scored more if the strikers didn’t miss some good chances. So the manager replaced Mac Allister with Di Maria. After Di Maria was brought in, Argentina created more chances. Moreover, he doubled the lead within nine minutes with a brilliant goal. De Paul,  who assisted on the first goal, also contributed to the second one. Two minutes later, Angel Di Maria helped Lionel Messi to find the net. With this one, Messi becomes the highest goalscorer of CONMEBOL Qualifiers. Anyway, the Albiceleste won the match with a 3-0 margin.
