In the front, he started with Luis Suarez and Joao Felix. But Jose Bordalas played his team in a 5-3-2 formation. He preferred to play defensive football rather than attacking.
As the home team, Atletico Madrid tried to control the match from the beginning. They had more possession on the ball than the visitors. But the home team conceded first as the winger, Yunus Musah, scored a brilliant goal in the 25th minute for the visitors. Moreover, Valencia doubled their lead just before half-time. Argentine forward Angel Correa equalized in the injury time. He scored for the home team in the 91 minutes. Within two minutes, they hit again. Mario Hermoso netted the ball in the 93rd minute.
