Bangladesh have qualified for the Super 12 round in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, beating Oman by 84 runs. They became second in Group B with 4 points, whereas Scotland became the first in this Group with 6 points.

Match Report: Bangladesh VS Papua New Guinea

The match between Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea was a must-win match for Bangladesh. They lost the first match against Scotland. So, Bangladesh had to win the rest two matches against Oman and Papua New Guinea to qualify for the Super 12 round.

In the last match Group B in the first round, Bangladesh faced Papua New Guinea at Al Amerat Cricket Ground. Bangladesh captain Mahmmudullah Riyad won the toss and decided to bat first. But Mohammad Naim, who got the half-century in the last match, lost his wicket in the second ball of the innings. Kabua Morea picked up the wicket for Papua New Guinea(PNG). Then, Shakib Al Hasan came off the pitch. He made a partnership of 50 runs with Liton Das. In the 8th over, Liton Das lost the wicket to Assad Vala after scoring 29 runs from 23 balls.

On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan missed the half-century only for four runs. He scored 46 runs with three sixes. But, Assad Vala took the wicket of Shakib as well. Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad started hitting boundaries at the last moment. He scored a half-century only from 28 balls. So after 20 overs, Bangladesh picked up 181 runs for 7 wickets.

Chasing 181, Papua New Guinea lost seven wickets for just 24 runs. Shakib Al Hasan picked up four wickets for Bangladesh. On the contrary, Kiplin Doriga was the only batsman to score 46 runs. No other batsmen of Papua New Guinea crossed 15 runs except him. As a result, they became all-out in 97 runs. Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed got two wickets each. Spinner Mehedi Hasan got one wicket for Bangladesh.

Super 12 Round

There are two groups in the Super 12 round. They are,

Group 1: Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh, & Srilanka.

Group 2: Indian, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Scotland, & Ireland/Namibia.
