Bangladesh have won the ODI series against Afghanistan

Bangladesh have sealed the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan by beating them in the second game of the series. Yesterday, the home team won by 88 runs in the second ODI against the Afghans. The victory moves Bangladesh to the top of the table of the Super League. However, the last match of this series will take place at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on February 28. Bangladesh have a great chance to complete the whitewash in the third match.

2nd ODI Match Report

In the 2nd match, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bat first. Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan kept the same squad as the first game. So winning the toss, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das started the innings for the home team. They looked comfortable on the pitch, but Tamim Iqbal couldn’t stay long as he lost his wicket in the 7th over. Fazalhaq Farooqi, who got four wickets in the first game, picked up the wicket of Tamim Iqbal.

After that, Shakib Al Hasan came into the pitch. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make a big score for the team. Before losing the wicket in the 16th over, he added 20 runs on the scoreboard. On the other side, Liton Das remained on the pitch. He batted very comfortably and kept the pace of picking runs consistently. Liton made a brilliant partnership with the new batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim. They both added 198 runs together on the scoreboard.

Both Mushfiq and Liton got a half-century in this match. However, Mushfiq had to go back to the pavilion after scoring 86 runs. But Liton didn’t miss the century. He scored the highest 136 runs for the home team. Bangladesh set the visitors a target of 307 runs based on these two big innings.

Chasing down a big target, Afghanistan didn’t have a great start. They lost the first wicket in the second over. Moreover, they lost two more wickets within ten overs. Opener Rahmat Shah tried to tackle the situation. He made a partnership with Najibullah Zadran. Before losing the wickets, Rahmat Shah added 52 runs on the scoreboard, and Zadran scored 54 runs for the team. But, the remaining players couldn’t score enough runs to win the match. They became all-out in 218 runs. As a result, Bangladesh won the second ODI and secured the series.
