After losing the test and the T20 series against West Indies, Bangladesh started the three-match ODI series with a victory. Last night, they defeated the home team by six wickets at the Guyana National Stadium. Bangladeshi spinner Mehedi Hasan won the Player of the Match award for taking three crucial wickets of the West Indies.

Bangladesh have made several changes in the squad. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim missed the match due to personal issues. Moreover, Najmul Hasan Shanto replaced Anamul Haque in this match. However, Bangladesh’s ODI captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bowl first. But due to bad weather, the game was reduced to 41 overs.
Kyle Mayers and Shai Hope started the batting innings for West Indies. But they failed to make a long partnership. In the 2nd over, Shai Hope lost his wicket to Mustafizur Rahman. He departed the pitch without scoring any runs. After a while, Kyle Mayers left as Mehedi Hasan picked up his wicket in the 12th over. Moreover, West Indies lost two more wickets in the 21st over as Shoriful Islam picked up Brandon King and Sharmarh Brook. Before losing the wicket, Sharmarh Brook scored the highest 33 runs for Wes Indies. But the remaining batters couldn’t contribute much. As a result, West Indies ended their innings in 149 runs.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh also failed to start their innings in style. They lost their first wicket in the 3rd over as Liton Kumar departed the pitch. After that, skipper Tamim Iqbal made a partnership of 40 runs with the new batter, Najmul Hasan. Tamim looked very aggressive on the pitch. But he was unfortunate as he returned to the pavilion after being run out. Tamim scored 33 off 25 balls before his departure.
However, Najmul Hasan Shanto then made another brilliant partnership with Mahmudullah Riyad. Together they added 49 runs on the scoreboard. Shanto stopped in the 20th over as Godakesh Motie picked up his wicket. But Mahmudullah Riyad remained not out in 41 runs. Relying on these scores, Bangladesh chased the target in 32 overs. As a result, Bangladesh won the first match by 6 wickets.
