The Bangladesh Cricket Team has created history by winning the first-ever ODI series in South Africa. Before the ODI series, Bangladesh didn’t win a single match on the Protea’s soil, and guess what? They have won the series against the home team, South Africa. Yesterday, Bangladesh have defeated the Proteas in the third ODI and secured the series.

In this match, Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmed took five wickets and has become the Player of the Match. He has also won the Player of the Series award. However, Bangladesh have climbed up on the top of the table in the ICC Super League.

Match Report

Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, won the toss and decided to bat first at the SuperSports Park Cricket Stadium. So Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock started the batting innings for the home team. They have had a decent start in this match, but couldn’t make a long partnership. Both batsmen added 41 runs together on the scoreboard. Then they started losing wickets. Bangladeshi spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz hit first as he took the wicket of De Kock in the 7th over.

After that, Taskin Ahmed started destroying the batting line-up of South Africa. Due to his pace aggression, the home team’s batsmen couldn’t stay longer on the pitch. Opener Janneman Malan scored the highest 39 runs for the Proteas. He tried to create resistance, but Taskin didn’t let him do it. This pacer took his first-ever five-wicket haul against South Africa. As a result, the home team became all-out in 154 runs.

Chasing the small target, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Kumar Das started the innings brilliantly. Tamim was a little bit more aggressive than Liton. It seemed Bangladesh were going to win the match by ten wickets. Unfortunately, Liton Das lost his wicket after scoring 48 runs. On the other hand, Tamim Iqbal got a half-century in this match. He chased the target with the new batsman, Shakib Al Hasan. So, Bangladesh won the match by nine wickets and sealed the three-match series.

Reaction

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal has talked with the media after winning the series. He is pleased with the team’s performance. He said,

To win a series in South Africa is very difficult. They won a series against full-strength India 3-0. We had the belief that we can win the series, but for that, we would have had to play extremely well. To win the series for the first time coming to South Africa we needed to do things out of the box and to play the best cricket that we possibly could
