Match Report

The second leg of the Round of 16 was very important for both Bayern Munich and RB Salzburg as the first game ended in a 1-1 tie. Last night, the Bavarians welcomed the Salzburg to play the second leg. Julian Nagelsmann, the home team manager, set up his team formation with 3-2-4-1. He used Rober Lewandowski as the center forward. The manager deployed Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Koman played as a winger. On the other side, the Salzburg manager played his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

As the home team, Bayern Munich took advantage of their home ground. They started pressing and pushing the opponent from the beginning of the match. In the 11th minute, Salzburg defender Maximilian Wober fouled Robert Lewandowski inside the box. As a result, the match referee offered a penalty kick to the home team. Lewandowski took the kick and made no mistake.

The Salzburg defenders were struggling to stop Bayern’s strikers. In  the 19th minute, center back Maximilian Wober fouled Lewandowski again. The Polish forward didn’t miss the second one as well. So, the home team doubled their lead in 21 minutes. Within two minutes, Bayern scored again. It was Lewandowski again! With this goal, the Polish international completed his fifth hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League. Only Lionel Messi (8) and Cristiano Ronaldo (8) scored more hat-trick than Robert Lewandowski.

In the 31st minute, Bayern scored their fourth goal as Serge Gnabry found the net. So the first half ended in 4-0. Returning from the break, the Bavarians scored three more goals. Thomas Muller and Leore Sane were the goalscorers in the second half. However, the visitors scored a goal in the 70th minute. That did not help the visitors at all. As a result, Bayern Munich qualified for the quarter-final for the 20th time.
