German club Werder Bremen got a dramatic victory against the home team, Borussia Dortmund. Despite having two goals lead until the 77th minute, Borussia Dortmund conceded three goals in injury time. The defeat sees Dortmund at 7th place on the point table. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen have come closer to Dortmund after this match. They are just one point behind Borussia Dortmund.

As It Happened

Borussia Dortmund welcomed Werder Bremen at the Signal Iduna Park last night. The home team won their first two games, while Werder Bremen has drawn each of their previous two matches. So, Dortmund were confident to get three consecutive victories.

Edin Terzic, the manager of Borussia Dortmund, set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1. Meanwhile, Bremen’s boss played his team in a 3-5-2 formation. He used two wing-backs with three center-backs against the home team.

However, both teams played relatively well in the first half. Both have created some crucial chances. But the home team found the net first. Winger Julian Brandt scored that goal with the help of Marco Reus just before half-time. Therefore, Borussia Dortmund went to the break with a one-goal lead.

Returning from the break, the visitors became desperate to find the equalizer. They kept pressing and creating chances. But then again, Borussia Dortmund got a goal to double their lead. This time, defender Raphael Guerreiro found the net. Marco Reus again assisted on this goal.

It seemed the home team would take three points from their home ground, but the drama was yet to come. Werder Bremen changed the whole scenario after getting a goal. Their first goal came just before the 90th minute. Defender Lee Buchanan opened their scoresheet by scoring a stunning goal. Moreover, the visitors leveled the match as Niklas Schmidt found the net in injury time. Surprisingly, Oliver Burke scored a magnificent goal in the 95th minute to secure a dramatic victory at Signal Iduna Park.

Marco Reus Reaction

Dortmund captain Marco Reus was disappointed losing this match. While speaking to Sky Sports, Reus said, “I have no idea what just happened. If I knew, we would have stopped it happening. We had no control over the game even though we were 2-0 up — that was the case for the whole 90 minutes. Then Bremen pulled one back in the 89th minute and came to life. But in the end we just didn’t play well enough throughout the game.”
