Match Review

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss at the Dubai International Stadium and decided to bowl first. The two openers of CSK started the innings in style. Faf du Plessis and Rituraj Gaikwad made 61 runs in the opening partnership. Rituraj Gaikwad lost his wicket to Sunil Narine after scoring 32 runs.

On the other hand, Faf du Plessis continued the rhythm of hitting boundaries. Robin Uthappa gave him good support in the wicket. He scored 31 off 15 balls, hitting three sixes before losing his wicket to Shivam Mavi. However, Moen Ali added more speed of scoring runs when he came to the pitch. He scored unbeaten 37 runs from 20 balls. As a result, Chennai Super Kings scored 192 runs in 20 overs and lost three wickets.

The two openers of Kolkata Knight Riders started the innings very aggressively. Both of them got a half-century in this innings. Shubhman Gill, who is performing well in every innings, scored 51 runs from 43 balls. On the other side, Venkatesh Iyer also got the half-century. He scored 50 runs in just 32 balls.

It looked like Kolkata would win based on these two batsmen. But the tragedy began when the two openers lost their wickets. The rest six batsmen could not even score ten runs individually. Shardul Thakur picked up three wickets of Kolkata Knight Riders. Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each. However, the innings of Kolkata Knight Riders ended at 165 runs.

Reactions

Chennai Captain MS Dhoni spoke to the media after the match. He said,

Before I start talking about CSK, need to talk about KKR. Difficult to come back and do what they have, if any team deserved to win the IPL, it’s KKR. Huge credit to the coaches, team, and support staff. The break really helped them. Coming to CSK, we shuffled players. We had match winners coming game after game and doing really well. Every final is special, if you look at the stats, we may say we’re the most consistent team to lose the final too. I feel it’s important to come back strong, especially in the knockouts.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan also talked to the media. He praised his team members. He said,

We are extremely proud of the fight we have shown. The character and fight is a trademark. Our owners – Shahrukh, Venky have been absolutely outstanding. The Guys fought incredibly hard and performed. Iyer and Gill have been outstanding. Ventakesh is new to this platform. They have been the cornerstone of our batting.
