Manchester City took control of the match but failed to score. On the other side, Southampton defended very well. They did not give space to the Man City players. Both teams were unable to score. So, the match ended by 0-0. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said,

They had seven days to prepare, we had 10 minutes yesterday. The Premier League is 38 games and everyone is against everyone. But, it is not true for the teams who play in the Champions League. I would have loved to have more time to recover and be fresh, but today we didn’t have this freshness in our mind. I would not say in our legs, because we had four or five new players, but sometimes you have these days.
