Manchester United go to the world cup break with a dramatic victory against Fulham FC. Last night, they traveled to the Craven Cottage to play their final game before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. However, Man United’s Argentine talent Alejandro Garnacho scored a late goal in the additional time to save all three points for Manchester United.

As it happened

Before the clash against Fulham FC, Manchester United lost their previous game against Aston Villa in the Premier League. So, Manchester United needed to win the match last night to go to the top four.

Therefore, Man United’s manager Erik Ten Hag made several changes in the squad compared to their previous game. He put Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandez, and Christian Eriksen in the starting XI. However, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo missed the game due to injuries.

Man United’s manager Erik Ten Hag played the team with a 4-2-3-1 formation. On the other hand, Fulham’s boss also played his team in the same formation as Erik Ten Hag set.

As the home team, Fulham FC tried to dominate the visitors. They had more possession on the ball than Manchester United. But the Red Devils scored first as Christian Eriksen got his first goal in Man United’s shirt. He found the net with the help of Bruno Fernandes.

After that, both teams had some crucial chances. But no one could find the net. Therefore, Man United went to the break with a one-goal lead.

However, Fulham looked more threatening after coming back from the break. They highly pressed the visitors at the Craven Cottage. Finally, the home team found the equalizer as Daniel James netted the ball in the 61st minute for Fulham.

At this point, it seemed the match would end in a 1-1 tie. But, Alejandro Garnacho, who came off the bench in the 72nd minute, scored a stunning goal in the very last moment of the match to save Manchester United. His late strike earned three points from Craven Cottage.

Reaction

Although Man United won the game, Erik Ten Hag was not satisfied with the team’s performance. In the post-match reaction, Ten Hag said, “You have to analyse the process and then you see we are improving in a lot of skills during this first half of the season so far. But also realise we are not there, where we want to be, and that we have to invest even more and we have to work even more. Everyone as an individual, but especially also as a team and if we do that we can achieve the ambitions we have.”
