England are among the favorites in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Manager Gareth Southgate has announced a strong squad for the upcoming world cup in Qatar. However, England’s squad had always been strong, but the Three Lions didn’t win the trophy since they won their first world cup in 1966.

England were really close in Russia World Cup, but they lost the semifinal. But England’s skipper Harry Kane is confident this time. He believes England can win the Qatar World Cup. In today’s interview with Sky Sports, Harry Kane shared his thought about England for World Cup.

England were scared in the previous World Cup

England’s captain Harry Kane admitted that his team was scared in the previous tournament. He said, “I look back at England 10, 15 years ago, and it was almost [like] we were scared to say we wanted to win it.”

However, the skipper is confident this time. “I think one of the big shifts that we’ve made over the last four or five years with Gareth is not being afraid to say that,” Harry Kane said.

“Look, we’re going to this tournament to win it because we believe we can. It’d be wrong to think otherwise. What’s the point of going to a World Cup and not believing that you can bring the trophy home?”

Kane talked about England’s poor form

Although England have a strong squad for the World Cup, their recent poor form can’t make the fans hopeful for the Qatar World Cup. Kane said, “The first game’s really important, for sure. Of course, it hasn’t been the greatest period in a long time for England. Since Gareth took charge – we haven’t had a spell like we’ve had.”

“But in a way before a major tournament that can be a really good thing because it allows you not to be carried away, or even the media or the press to get carried away,” the captain added.

Kane thinks the mid-season World Cup will be helpful

FIFA World Cup usually starts in June-July. Qatar’s high temperatures forced the move of the World Cup to November. However, Harry Kane thinks the mid-season World Cup will be helpful for him to get his prime form.

Harry Kane has already scored 13 goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hostpur. He hopes to continue his good form in Qatar. “For sure, I’d rather be going into it playing loads of games where you feel match fit,” Kane stated.

“Sometimes after the season in the summer you have a break, and then you have to gear back up to play, and you haven’t played a lot of games. I think rolling into it can help – as long as you manage it well and you recover well. I think recovery is the most important thing for any player in this period,” Kane added.

However, England will start their world cup journey in Qatar on November 21. They will face Iran in their opening game.
