Barcelona is one of the most successful clubs in the history of football. So many legendary players such as Ronaldinho, Carlos Puyol, Xabi, Iniesta, and of course Lionel Messi have played in this club. FC Barcelona have conquered 26 La Liga trophies and 5 Champions League titles. But now their financial condition is extremely bad. As a result, FC Barcelona couldn’t keep their superstar, Leo Messi, at the club.

So what happened to Barcelona? Here we tried to find the answer.

Irrational Planning

In 2017, FC Barcelona have released Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain with a record €220m transfer fee. It is still an unbroken record. After getting €220m, they spend it randomly. They brought Coutinho for €142m, Osman Dembele for €145m, and Atoine Griezmann for €120m. FC Barcelona have been spending more than they earn. Moreover, they have been paying high wages to all the players. This is one of the main reasons why Barcelona is becoming financially weak. According to the president of FC Barcelona, the club is now in debt of 1350 million euros and lost 481 million euros last season. Barcelona have suffered a lot due to the Corona epidemic. Despite having debt, Barcelona lost another €154m due to the coronavirus.

Leo Messi Left Barcelona

Due to the financial condition, Lionel Messi has left Barcelona. It is a surprising thing that, Barcelona can’t keep their biggest star of all time at the club. Messi’s contract with Barcelona has been expired before. But the president was confident keeping Messi.

Lionel Messi also wanted to stay at the club. That’s why he agreed to cut fifty percent of his wages. But still, they could not able to keep him because of the rule of Financial Fair Play. So Messi had to go away from his boyhood club.

Current Situation of Barcelona

Due to the FFP rules, Barcelona can not register any player. But, their senior player Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba have agreed to cut their wager to help the club. As a result, Barcelona can register Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, and Aguero.

Barcelona are unable to pay some players wages, such as Antoine Griezmann and Pjanic. So that, they sent them to Atletico Madrid and Besiktas on loan. But they are not happy. Pjanic spoke out yesterday about his loan move. He said to Marca:

“Koeman disrespected me. He was never talking to me! I’m a player who can accept everything but I would always like it to be explained to and not as if I was 15. I agreed to lower my salary and join Besiktas because I love playing football”.

Barcelona is going through a difficult time. It will take time to overcome this messy situation. The fans of Barcelona are waiting to see their team rise again.
