England and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was appointed as the head coach of Everton FC the last January. The English midfielder returned to the coaching career after a difficult period at Chelsea. During an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Frank Lampard talked about a lot of things. He now feels like an Evertonian.

Never expected to be Everton’s manager

Frank Lampard spent most of his career at Chelsea. At the early of his career, he never expected to become the Everton manager. Lampard said, “I never expected to become Everton manager. I would never have dreamed I’d be saying that.”

The initial challenge at Everton

During his first few months at Everton, Frank Lampard spoke about the challenges he faced. Everton lost some players during the winter and the summer transfer window. Now the team is in the process of rebuilding. “We’ve had some tough periods, even since I’ve been here. Me and my coaching staff came at a tense moment, and we saw everyone come together in a tight-knit way: it was more than football,” Lampard stated.

Lampard analyzed his team

Lampard is confident about his philosophy and analyzed his team. “Some of it will be confidence: there was a feeling about us last year that when we went behind on the road, heads went down and we conceded more – which wasn’t good enough. There’s definitely a different sense of us – so far – this season,” said Lampard.

He added, “It’s having a solid nature about us in areas of the pitch where we are dominant – not dominating games, but when we’re under pressure, we dominate our box and defend well.”

Lampard praised Alex Iwobi

Midfielder Alex Iwobi has been playing brilliantly for the Toffees. However, the Nigerian made controversy by describing himself as “almost unstoppable”. But, the manager praised the midfielder. Lampard said, “I saw that comment and I loved it because I know he has a huge amount of humility, so it’s not a comment that can be taken in the wrong way.”

Frank Lampard added, “When I saw his qualities he had been showing on the wing or at wing-back in my early days here, I thought we could use him more in midfield as the energy and qualities were a big plus for us. He moved in there, and I felt straight away that he looked better to me, and this season, I started him with a real idea that he would be playing in a more central role.”

However, Everton will face Fulham FC tonight at the Craven Cottage. With 13 points, Everton stand in the 12th, while Fulham FC are in 7th place with 18 points. Anyway, Fulham FC beat the Toffees in their last meeting with a 2-0 margin.
