Match Report

Nicholas Pooran, the captain of the West Indies, won the toss and decided to bowl first against the visitors. So, Rohit Sharma came off the pitch with Suryakumar Yadav to start the batting innings of India. Both openers brought a flying start for the team. They aimed to set a massive target for the Caribbeans. However, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav added 44 runs on the scoreboard in the opening partnership. But their partnership broke in the 5th over as Suryakumar lost his wicket to Akeal Hosein.

India lost another wicket in the following over. Shreyas Iyer had to go back to the pavilion without scoring any runs for the team. But opener Rohit Sharma kept scoring runs. He scored the highest 64 runs from 44 balls. Before losing the wicket, Rohit Sharma hit two sixes and seven fours.

The next two batsmen of India also failed to get enough runs. It seemed India couldn’t make 150 runs. But Dinesh Karthik changed the momentum. With his destroying 41 runs from only 19 balls helped India to set a target of 191 runs for the West Indies.

Chasing the target, the two openers of West Indies tried to bat aggressively. But they couldn’t go far enough as Kyle Mayers lost his wicket in the 2nd over. Jason Holder, the next batsman, failed to open the scoresheet. However, Sharmarh Brooks tried to tackle the initial disaster with the captain, Nicholas Pooran. But they also failed to make a long partnership. Sharmarh Brooks added 20 off 15 balls, while Nicholas Pooran lost his wicket in 18 runs.

The Indian bowlers were very economical in the first T20. They hardly let the batters score runs. As a result, West Indies ended their batting innings in 122 runs only. So, India won the first match of the series by 69 runs.
