The England Cricket Board invited India to play five-match Test series in their country. Both teams have started the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) with this test series. India are currently in the 2nd position in ICC test ranking, while England placed in 4th position in the test ranking.

India played 128 test matches against England. England have won more Test matches than India. They have won 48 matches against India, where India have won 30 test matches. The remaining 50 matches have been drawn.

In India

India have played 64 matches against England in their home ground. They have won 22 matches and lost 14 matches. The rest of the matches have been drawn.

In England

A total of 64 test matches have been played between the two teams in England. There India have won only 8 matches and England have won 34 matches. Rest 22 matches have been drawn.

India will face England in five different venues in England. They are;

  • Leeds
  • The Oval, London
  • Old Trafford, Manchester

1st Test Match

The first test match of this series started on 4 August at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. In the first innings, England scored 183 runs only where Joe Root scored 64 runs while Jusprit Bumrah took four wickets of England. On the contrary, India have managed to score 278 runs in their first innings. KL Rahul played a wonderful inning and scored 84 runs. Ravindra Jadeja got his 16th half century in this innings. Ollie Robinson took five wickets, and James Anderson took four wickets of India.

In the second innings of England, they batted really well. They scored 303 runs where England captain Joe Root scored 109 runs. It was the highest individual score of the test match. However, Jusprit Bumrah took five wickets as a bowler of India. England gave them a target of 209 runs.

India started their second innings. After 52 runs, it started raining. Then the match couldn’t be started again and the match official declared the match a draw.
