Liverpool has been one of the favorite title contenders in the English Premier League in recent years. Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League in the 2018-2019 season. One year later, the 2019-2020 season marked Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years.

Last year, Liverpool had the chance to win the unprecedented quadrupole. But this season is completely different for the Klopp boys. They are out of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. Moreover, Liverpool are out of the top six in the league table in EPL. With 29 points, Liverpool stand at the 9th and are likely to miss the upcoming Champions League. But what is the reason behind Liverpool’s failure? Here we’ve tried to find it out.

Fewer transfer activities

Sadio Mane was one of the most important players in Liverpool’s attacking lineup. He, with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, became the deadliest attacking trio in the top five leagues. This lineup helped Liverpool to win the UCL and the EPL.

However, Liverpool allowed him to leave the club in the last summer transfer window. To replace Mane, Liverpool signed Luis Diaz. The Colombian made an immediate impact at Liverpool, scoring and providing assists. But injury ruled him out for the rest of the season. On the other hand, Roberto Firmino eventually lost his prime form. He became slow and failed to press highly in front. As a result, Firmino couldn’t get enough game time at Liverpool.

To solve the problems in the frontline, Jurgen Klopp signed Cody Gakpo, who was heavily linked with Manchester United. Unfortunately, Gakpo hasn’t fulfilled the expectation yet. He is hardly making an impact on the games.

No creativity in the midfield

Liverpool are mostly suffering in their midfield. Liverpool’s manager keeps playing players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. But because Henderson is 32 and Fabiho is 29, they are too elderly to exert much pressure.

For this, Liverpool signed Thiago Alcantara with sky-high expectations. Unfortunately, he was injured for a long time. Although he returned from injury, Thiago couldn’t fulfill the fan’s expectations.

Liverpool have made Jude Bellingham their no.1 target in the next transfer window to solve the midfield’s problem. But it won’t be an easy task for Jurgen Klopp to sign Bellingham. Because there are many top clubs, including Real Madrid, that are trying to bring the English player. Overall, Jurgen Klopp faces the daunting task of recovering the squad to its full glory.
