Liverpool continues their winning run in the EPL

English giant Liverpool continue their winning run in the English Premier League as they beat Newcastle United last night. With this match, Liverpool become the first-ever English team to win 2000 top-flight games. They made another record last night. The All Reds have scored in each of their previous 32 games in all competition. It is their longest run in the club history.

The Klopp boys are now just one point behind the table topper, Manchester City. After the 17th league game, Liverpool got 40 points. Moreover, they are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions.

Match Report

Liverpool welcomed Newcastle United at Anfield last night. As the home team, Liverpool had a tremendous crowd in the stadium. Jurgen Klopp, the home team manager, set his team formation with 4-3-3.

However, Klopp had to make some changes in his squad. Center-back Virgil Van Dijk has tested positive for Covid-19. So the manager replaced him with Ibrahim Konate in this game. Moreover, Curtis Jones and Fabinho tested positive for Covid-19.

On the other hand, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe played his team with 4-5-1 formation. He used Saint-Maximin as a center forward. The manager also played two wingers against Liverpool.

Anyway, the visitors took the lead at the very beginning of the match. Newcastle number-8 Jonjo Shelvey scored the goal in the 7th minute. But Liverpool equalized in the 21st minute as Diogo Jota found the net for the All Reds. Within four minutes, the home team doubled their lead. This time Mohammad Salah scored in the 25th minute. Salah made a new record with this goal. He scored or assisted in 15 consecutive Premier League games this season.

The visitors could not score more in the first half. However, the second half was a bit slower than the first half. At the very last moment, Liverpool scored the third one. Right-back Trent Alexandar Arnold found the net this time. He scored with the help of Roberto Firmino in the 87th minute. So after 90 minutes, Liverpool won the match by 3-1 and climb up to 2nd place in the table.
