Manchester United have dropped out Cristiano Ronaldo for the Chelsea clash on Saturday as part of the punishment. Ronaldo broke the rule in the match against Tottenham Hotspur. He refused to come into the pitch as a substitute and walked away to the dressing room before the full-time whistle.

His behavior drew the attention of the manager, Erik Ten Hag. After the match, Ten Hag said that he would deal with it on Thursday. Finally, the manager dropped him out of the squad for the Chelsea clash. Man United board also backed the manager. Last night, Manchester United released a statement, saying, “Cristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

Strong Words From Ten Hag

Ronaldo missed the pre-season as he was desperate to leave the club. But Ten Hag warned him for not joining the team at the start of the season. And when Ronaldo broke the rules, Ten Hag didn’t tolerate it anymore. In a press conference today, the manager explained his decision to drop Ronaldo.

Ten Hag said, “I’m the manager. I’m responsible for the culture, and I have to set standards and values, and I have to control them. We are in a team, and in a team we have standards and values, and we have to control it. So after Rayo Vallecano I said it was not acceptable, but he was not the only one. That was for everyone. So when it’s the second time, that will have consequences, and that is what we did. So we miss him tomorrow, and that is a miss for us and the squad. It’s a miss, but I think it’s important for the attitude for the mentality for the group, and now we have to focus on Chelsea and that is the most important [thing].”

Ronaldo’s statement.

Cristiano Ronaldo has posted his thoughts on his verified Facebook and Instagram accounts. There he wrote, “I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I have represented. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.”
