After that, Man United could have scored two more goals. Unfortunately, Fred and Garnacho hit the post twice. So the first half ended 1-0.

Returning from the break, Erik Ten Hag made several changes. He deployed Casemiro, Eriksen, and Rashford in the second half. Therefore, the Red Devils became more aggressive. They outplayed the visitors at Old Trafford.

However, Charlton defended very well. They didn’t let Man United’s striker score until the last minute. But Marcus Rashford broke their defense at the very last moment. He found the net in the 90th minute with the help of Pellistri. Within four minutes, Rashford got his 2nd goal. In the end, Manchester United sealed the victory with a comfortable 3-0 margin.

Ten Hag’s Reaction

Man United boss Erik Ten Hag was happy with the team’s performance. But he insisted that Manchester United could kill the game earlier. He said, “I said before we have to reach the semi-finals and we did the job. We had to finish the game early on but, in the end, the objective was getting to the semi-final so compliments to the team. The only thing I’m not happy with is we had to finish the game early on, finish the scoring chances or take an extra pass.”
