Manchester United have struggled to win against the home team, West Ham United. Despite conceding the first goal at the London Stadium, Ole’s boys were able to win. Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea saved a heroic penalty after Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard’s stunning strike. However, Said Benrahma scored the first goal for the Hammers.

Manchester United went to the London Stadium as the visiting team for playing against West Ham United. It was the fifth match for both teams in the league. Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer set up the formation with 4-2-3-1. He used Ronaldo on the front, whereas Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood played as wingers. Manchester United were dominant in the first 20 minutes. They were pushing the home team in scoring goals. But West Ham United scored the first goal as Benrahma’s powerful shot found the net after deflecting Raphael Varane at the 30th minute. Conceding the goal, Manchester United tried desperately to equalize. In the 35th minute, Bruno Fernandez crossed the ball into the box. Cristiano Ronaldo kicked the ball with a flying shot, but the West Ham keeper blocked it. However, Ronaldo scored in the return shot. Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo already scored four goals in three matches after his second debut for the Red Devils.

In the second half, West Ham defended well. Manchester United could not make enough chances to score. So, Ole replaced Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, and Fred with Jadon Sancho, Lingard, and Matic. At the 89th minute, Jesse Lingard scored a stunning goal from Nemanja Matic’s assist. With this goal, Manchester United took the lead. But the drama was not over yet. At the additional time, Luke Shaw blocked Yermolenko’s cross with his arm. After checking VAR, the referee gave a penalty to the Hammers. Mark Noble came off the bench just to take the penalty. But David de Gea saved the penalty on 95 minutes. It was his first penalty save since 2014. So after 90 minutes, Manchester United secured three points at the London Stadium.

When talking to the MUTV, Manchester United manager; Ole Gunner Solskjaer said,

We deserved to win. I think we created some big chances, we had pressure on them, should have had a few penalties, great response when they scored, good attitude, very good away performance in a difficult cauldron; the stadium is hard here!”
