After six week’s break for the FIFA World Cup, the club football started yesterday. But tonight, English giant Manchester United is returning with a match against Burnley. In the round of 16 of the EFL Cup, Manchester United will face Burnley at Old Trafford.

Team News

Both sides will miss several players due to injury and the world cup. For Manchester United, Axel Tuanzebe is a long absentee. He hasn’t recovered from the injury. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot is out of the squad as he suffered from a muscle injury during the World Cup campaign of Portugal.

English forward Jadon Sancho is also in doubt. He trained alone in recent days, and Erik Ten Hag said before that Jadon is not fully fit. In addition, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez played the World Cup final, and they haven’t arrived at Carrington. Therefore, they will definitely be out for tonight’s match.

However, Bruno Fernandes arrived at the club and trained with the team. Christian Eriksen is also likely to play tonight. Antony and Fred have returned from the world cup campaign.

On the other hand, Scott Twine will miss the match against Manchester United for an injury. Burnley will also miss Connor Roberts for a suspension.

Erik Ten Hag on tonight’s clash

Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag has had a press conference. He has talked about Burnley. Ten Hag said, “I am happy with the state of play as we resume the campaign tonight, but I am well aware – as we all are – that we are not restarting with a straightforward game. Burnley are on top of the Championship, which is a difficult league to contest, plus they have been back in competitive action for a couple of weeks already.”

The manager also said, “We want to do well in the Carabao Cup this season and, although we are in different divisions, there is no question that we will have to be straight back into our best form tonight if we are to progress.”
