New Zealand got their 2nd victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Today, they faced Sri Lanka in the Super 12, where the Black Caps defeated the Lankans by 65 runs. The victory moved New Zealand to the top of the table. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka stand in 5th place in Group 1.

Winning the toss, New Zealand started their batting innings with Finn Allen and Devon Conway. But, the Lankan bowlers destroyed the top order of New Zealand. Sri Lanka picked up the first wicket in the first over as Maheesh Theekshana bowled out Finn Allen.

Devon Conway, the other opener of New Zealand, departed the pitch in the 3rd over after being bowled out by Dhananjaya de Silva. Like Finn Allen, Devon Conway also lost his wicket after scoring just one run. Moreover, captain Kane also failed to contribute much to the team. He left the crease with only eight runs. Glenn Phillips was the sailor of the Kiwis

Losing three wickets early in the game, New Zealand were under tremendous pressure. It seemed they would fail to set a big target for the Lankans. But Glenn Phillips stepped forward at this moment and started changing the scenario.

He made an important partnership with Daryl Mitchell. Together they added 84 runs on the scoreboard. It was their highest partnership in this match. However, Daryl Mitchell lost his wicket in the 15th over, scoring 22 runs.

Besides, Glenn Phillips kept hitting boundaries. With four sixes and ten fours, Glenn Phillips scored his first century in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He scored the highest 104 off 64 balls before losing the wicket. Relying on his bat, New Zealand scored 167 runs in 20 overs.

Trent Boult was on fire against the Lankans

Kiwi pacers were in top form when it came to defending the score. Tim Southee started picking the wickets by taking Pathum Nissanka. After that, Trent Boult took the next three batters of Sri Lanka.
