Newcastle United are flying in the English Premier League. They entered the top four last night as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the away game. Last night, they beat the Spurs with a 2-1 margin to enter the top four of the point table.

As it happened

After losing the match against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Newcastle United last night at their home. The Spurs needed to win this match to make a position strong in the top four. Therefore, Spurs boss Antonio Conte played his best possible Xi against the Magpies.

Antonio Conte set up the team formation with 3-5-2, where Harry Kane and Son Heung-min played in the front. On the other hand, Newcastle’s boss played his team in a 4-3-3 formation.

Despite being the home team, Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t dominate in the first half. Besides, the visiting team was more aggressive on the field. Their striker Almiron and Wilson looked very threatening whenever they got the ball. As a result, Newcastle United took the lead in the 31st minute with a stunning goal from Callum Wilson.

Returning from the break, Tottenham Hotspur tried hard to score a goal. They highly pressed the visitors. Finally, the Spurs returned a goal in the 54th minute with a brilliant header from the skipper, Harry Kane. It seemed the home team could find the equalizer before the full-time whistle. But Newcastle United defended very well in the remaining minutes. Due to their fantastic performance, the Spurs couldn’t find the net. As a result, Newcastle United won the game and entered the top four with 21 points.

Reaction

Antonio Conte is disappointed Tottenham did not win at home. Ideally, he would like to see a draw. Conte said, “I thought at least a draw was the fair result. We started well and had many chances to score, the Newcastle goalkeeper made some good saves and in our best moment they scored this strange goal.”

The manager added, “Their second goal came from a counter-attack. Then it was really difficult to come back. We lost a bit of confidence and maybe that was the difficult point for us. My players then showed great determination and commitment. I don’t have anything to complain about. We tried. We scored one goal. We didn’t do good enough. We are doing our best in every moment.”
