It was a day full of drama at the T20 World Cup today. In Group 2 of the Super 12, South Africa was the favorite to go to the semifinal. But the Netherlands changed the entire scenario by defeating South Africa today, which opened the possibility for Pakistan and Bangladesh to secure a place in the semifinal. However, Pakistan became successful as they beat Bangladesh in a controversial match to qualify for the semifinal.

As it happened

In today’s first match, South Africa was eliminated by losing against the Netherlands. Therefore, the winner of the Bangladesh VS Pakistan match would seal a place in the semifinal. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bat first in this crucial game.

Liton Das, who batted brilliantly against India, came into the crease with Najmul Hossain Shanto to start the innings. But both openers couldn’t do well as they did against India. Liton lost his wicket in the 3rd over, scoring 10 runs.

After that, Najmul Hossain Shanto slowly built a partnership with Soumya Sarkar. Both were very defensive between the two wickets. However, they added 52 runs together on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Soumya Sarkar lost his wicket to Shadab Khan in the 11th over.

Shadab Khan picked up another wicket in his next delivery. But, it was a controversial decision from the TV umpire. Shakib Al Hasan took the review as he was confident. According to the review, the ball touched the bat, but the umpire did not notice that. As a result, Shakib Al Hasan had to leave the crease.

However, Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to tackle the situation with Afif Hossain. The slow innings of Shanto ended with his wicket falling to Iftikhar Ahmed in the 14th over. The other batters couldn’t contribute enough. Therefore, Bangladesh ended their innings with 127 runs.

Chasing the target, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were very defensive on the pitch. They added 57 runs in the opening partnership. However, Nasum Ahmed broke up the partnership, which looked promising. He picked up Babar Azam in the 11th over. Mohammad Rizwan then followed the same path. He lost his wicket to Ebadat Hossain.

Taking two quick wickets, Bangladesh slightly took control of the game. But Mohammad Haris scored 31 of 18 runs to tackle the disaster. Moreover, Shan Masood remained unbeaten in 24 runs. Relying on these scores, Pakistan chased the target within 19 overs, losing five wickets. Therefore, they won the match and sealed a place in the semifinal.
