Match Report

Manchester United traveled to Cyprus to play against the home team, Omonia FC. So, Man United’s boss Erik Ten Hag made several changes in the squad compared to their last game in the EPL. The manager put Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro in the starting XI. Moreover, he benched Marcus Rashford and Martial against Omonia FC.

Both Man United and Omonia FC started the game a bit slowly. However, Man United eventually started pushing the home team. But Omonia FC stunned the visiting team in the 34th minute. Striker Karim Ansarifard scored a brilliant goal to take the lead against Man United. However, Manchester United couldn’t find the net in the remaining minutes of the 1st half.

Erik Ten Hag made some substitutions after the interval. He replaced Jadon Sancho with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes with Anthony Martial. However, these two players changed the momentum for Man United. In the 53rd minute, Marcus Rashford scored a brilliant goal for the Red Devils to make the scoreline level.

After scoring that goal, Manchester United became very aggressive and pushed for more goals. As a result, Anthony Martial, who came off the bench in the 61st minute, helped take the lead within two minutes. In addition, Rashford scored his 2nd goal in the 84th minute, but Omonia returned another one within a minute.

At this point, it seemed Omonia could have scored their third goal to draw the game. But, Manchester United defended well in the remaining minutes to keep the lead. As a result, the Red Devils earned three points from Cyprus and moved to 2nd place in the table.

Manager’s Reaction

Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag has praised Anthony Martial. Since returning from injury, the France international has been performing well. Erik Ten Hag said, “I want to do it really careful because he had a good pre-season and then the last 10 minutes against Atletico Madrid he fell out [injured] and then he returned against Liverpool, and so another injury from far back. I cannot force it. I have to do it with a plan and I’m trying to do it at the moment but it’s quite clear I’m happy with his performance. All the subs had a really good impact and that’s what I expect from players on the bench. You’re not playing with XI, we can sub five so every sub has to be ready. Tonight, was the best example you can get.”
