The UEFA Champions League returns tonight after a long break. FC Barcelona will face the Italian side, Inter Milan, in tonight’s clash in Group C. It’s a crucial match for both teams to qualify for the next round. In Group C, Bayern Munich won all two games they played. They need only one victory to secure their place in the round of 16.

On the other hand, Barcelona and Inter Milan have lost one and tied one. One of them will be qualified for the next round. This game is, therefore, very serious for both parties.

Recent Form and Records

Barcelona are having a good time in their domestic league, La Liga. With five consecutive victories, Barcelona have moved to the top of the table. However, Inter Milan are not doing well in Serie A. They have lost their last two games. Moreover, the Italian side are in 9th place after playing eight games in Serie A. In addition, the head-to-head records are also poor for Inter Milan. They have won just two of their 14 meetings against Barcelona.

The international break cost Barcelona brutally. Several key players of Barca have been ruled out due to injuries. Dutch midfielder Frankie de Jong will miss tonight’s clash as he is suffering from a hamstring injury. His countryman Memphis Depay is also unavailable for the same reason.

The injury hits Barca’s defense more. Barca manager Xavi Hernandes will miss the service of Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde as well. However, Inter Milan will also miss Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic in tonight’s clash.

Xavi’s thoughts

Barca manager Xavi Hernandes had a press conference today ahead of the UCL clash. He said, “The game against Inter is very significant for us. It will be very important, although not definitive. Both sides need the three points after losing against Bayern.”

Xavi added, “We showed we could compete again in the game in Munich. We just weren’t effective. We are doing things right, we are LaLiga leaders, but tomorrow’s game is another story. So, we want to prove to ourselves that this is the time to perform in this competition”
