History of The Ashes

In 1882, Australia won against England at the Oval Stadium. It was the first test match victory for the Aussies on British soil. That time, a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, published a news. In that report, they wrote after the defeat against Australia, “the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia.” Since then, the Test series between Australia and England has been called the Ashes.

England skipper Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first. All-rounder Ben Stokes has returned to the English squad with this series. He missed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to injury. So getting him back to the team is a massive thing for the visitors.
