The Galle Test: Sri Lanka VS Australia

Sri Lanka hosted Australia at the Galle International Stadium to play the second and final test of the series. Australia have already won the first match. So, they will win the series if they can avoid defeat in the 2nd match. However, Australia have already played their first innings after winning the toss. They scored 364 runs for all wickets.

1st Innings of Australia

Pat Cummins, the Test skipper of Australia, won the toss at the Galle International Stadium and decided to bat first. So, Usman Khwaja and David Warner came off the pitch to start the innings for Australia. But the Aussies didn’t get a decent start as they lost their first wicket in 15 runs. Kasun Rajitha got the wicket of David Warner in the 5th over.

However, Usman Khwaja tried to build a partnership with the new batter, Marnus Labuschagne. They looked comfortable on the pitch. Together they added 55 runs. After that, Usman Khwaja departed on the 22nd over. But Labuschagne continued scoring runs. He made another partnership of 134 runs with Steven Smith. Both batters ruled the Lankan bowlers. Unfortunately, Marnus Labuschagne lost his wicket to Prabhat Jayasuriya. But he scored 104 runs before his departure. On the other hand, Steve Smith remained not out in 145 runs. But the remaining batter couldn’t contribute much. As a result, Australia became all out in 364 runs. Prabhat Jayasuriya picked up six wickets alone for Sri Lanka.

1nd Innings of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka also failed to have a good start. They lost their first wicket in the 9th over as Pathum Nissanka departed the pitch after scoring only six runs. However, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne handled the situation with the new batsman, Kusal Mendis. They were playing very well on the pitch. They also added 152 on the scoreboard together. But their partnership ended in the 55th over when Dimuth Karunaratne lost his wicket to Mitchell Swepson. Karunaratne scored 86 runs before his departure. However, Kusal Medis remained not out in 84 runs. Relying on these runs, Sri Lanka ended the Day 2 in 184. They will continue batting today.
