The Euro 2020 champion Italy have welcomed Spain at San Siro to play the UEFA Nations League semi-final last night. Spain beat Italy in this match by 2-1. With this defeat, Italy’s 37 games unbeaten run has come to an end. Moreover, Spain avenged the Euro semi-final loss to Italy.

Match Review

In Euro 2020, Italy beat Spain on the penalty shoot-out in the semi-final. Three months later, Spain avenged their defeat to Italy in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League. Thanks to Manchester City forward Ferran Torres for his two outstanding goals.

Italy boss Roberto Manchini set up the formation with 4-3-3 at the home ground. On the other side, Spain boss Luis Enrique also played his team with the same formation as Italy. However, Spain scored the first goal in the 17th minute. The Spanish winger Ferran Torres scored the goal from Mikel Oyarzabal’s assist. Both of the Spanish wingers were involved in the second goal as well. Ferran Torres scored again just before halftime with Oyarzabal assist.

Italy captain Leonardo Bonucci got a red card in the 42nd minute due to two massive fouls. So Italy had to play the rest of the game with ten men. Spain did not concede any goals before halftime. As a result, they ended the first half with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the visiting team Spain kept more possession on the ball. They were pushing and creating more chances. Spain took 13 shots in the entire game, while the home team Italy took only 6 shots towards Spain. Whatever, Italy scored a goal at the very last moment of the match. Substitute Lorenzo Pellegrini scored in the 83rd minute from Federico Chiesa’s assist.

Both teams could not score more in the remaining minutes. So after 90 minutes, Spain beat the Euro 2020 champion Italy by 2-1. Italy were unbeaten in the 37 games. But their unbeaten run ended in defeat against Spain last night. Now, Spain will have to wait for the match between France and Belgium to know the opponent in the final of the UEFA Nations League.
