Following two losses in a row, the West Indies Women are back on track. They beat Bangladesh by four runs today in the ICC Women’s World Cup. This victory moves them to third place at the point table. On the other hand, Bangladesh remains in 7th place with two points only. They have already played four matches in this tournament. However, Nigar Sultana, the Bangladesh skipper, won the toss at Bay Oval and decided to bowl first. So, the Caribbean had to start batting.
Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews opened the innings for West Indies. They were batting very carefully and have tried to stay longer on the pitch. Both batters played the powerplay without losing any wickets. But, Jahanara Alom, the Bangladeshi pacer, picked a wicket after the powerplay. She took the wicket of Deandra Dottin in the 9th over. Before the departure, Dottin added 17 runs from 20 balls.
Hayley Matthews, the other opener, had to go back to the pavilion after scoring 18 runs. After her departure, Bangladesh took two wickets quickly. Nahida Akter picked up the wicket of the Caribbean skipper, Stafanie Taylor. In the next over, Rasheda Williams lost her wicket to Salma Khatun.
However, West Indies’ wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbelle tackled the situation scoring the highest 53 runs for the team. She was also no-out in this match. But the remaining batter couldn’t contribute much to the team. As a result, West Indies Women scored 140 runs in 50 overs.
Chasing down a small target, Bangladesh lost a very early wicket as Shamima Sultana departed without scoring runs. But Sharmin Akter tried to handle the situation with the new batter, Farjana Haque. They added 29 runs together on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Sharmin Akter lost her wicket in the 9th over. Nigar Sultana then took over the batting and led the chase. But she also failed as Hayley Matthews picked up her wicket in the 33rd over. Unfortunately, Bangladesh Women became all-out just before four runs of the target. Caribbean bowler Stafani Taylor ensured the victory by picking the wicket of Fariha Trisna in 50th over. As a result, Bangladesh Women lost the match by four runs only.
