Unai Emery returns to the EPL with a massive win

Aston Villa have appointed Unai Emery as their head coach. Today, the former Arsenal boss returned to the English Premier League after three seasons as the manager of Aston Villa.

However, Aston Villa started their new era under Unai Emery with a massive victory against Manchester United. They have defeated Man United by a 3-1 margin at Villa Park.

Aston Villa welcomed Manchester United at Villa Park. Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag missed several players due to injury. Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Bruno Fernandes missed the clash tonight as they all have injury issues. Therefore, the manager has made several changes in the starting XI. Cristiano Ronaldo captained the team, while the manager started Garnacho against the Villa.

On the other hand, Unai Emery set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1. He deployed Watkins as the center forward. Meanwhile, Leon Baily, Ramsey, and Buendia played just behind the striker.

As the home team, Aston Villa tried to dominate the opponents from the beginning of the match. They highly pressed Manchester United at their home ground. As a result, Aston Villa didn’t have to wait for much to score their first goal.

In the 7th minute, the home team took the lead as Leon Baily scored a fantastic goal with the help of Ramsey. Within five minutes, Aston Villa got another chance to double the lead. This time, the home team doubled the lead as Lucas Digne scored a brilliant goal from a free-kick. 

Conceding two goals early in the game, Manchester United had gone under tremendous pressure. They tried hard to return a goal. But the midfielders failed to create enough chances against Aston Villa. 

Man United manager Eri Ten Hag played the team in a 4-3-3 formation for the first time in EPL this season. But his plan didn’t work out perfectly. In midfield, Donny Van de Beek wasn’t effective enough. He was supposed to play Bruno Fernandes’s role. Unfortunately, the Dutch failed to create enough opportunities for the forwards.

However, Manchester United got a goal, which was an own goal from Jacob Ramsey. The visitors couldn’t find the equalizer in the first half. Therefore, the first half ended in a 2-1 margin.

Returning from the break, the home team became more aggressive. They scored their third goal immediately after returning from the break. This time, Jacob Ramsey found the net in the 49th minute with the help of Watkins. Anyway, Manchester United couldn’t score more at Villa Park. As a result, Unai Emery’s first match as manager ended in victory for Aston Villa.
