Match Review

In the Mestalla stadium, Valencia FC welcomed Cadiz to play the quarter-final of Copa del Rey. Mestalla is the home ground of Valencia. In this match, the home team manager Jose Bordalas set up the team formation with 4-1-3-2. On the other hand, Cadiz’s boss played his team in 4-4-2 formation.

Cadiz tried to dominate over the home team from the beginning of the match. Indeed, they had more possession of the ball than the home team. But Valencia were very clinical in terms of finishing. They looked more dangerous whenever they got chances. As a result, the home team took the lead in the 24th minute of the match. Valencia striker Goncalo Guedes netted the ball with the help of Hugo Duro.

Conceding the goal, the visitors became so desperate to find the equalizer. They took six shots before halftime. But Cadiz couldn’t score due to the poor performance of their strikers. So the first half ended in 1-0.

The visitors tried to settle down after the break. They created some good chances in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Valencia defender Eray Comert fouled the striker of Cadiz inside the box. As a result, the match referee offered a penalty kick to the visitors. Cadiz striker, Lucas Perez, took the kick and made no mistakes. So the visitors equalized in the 54th minute.

After conceding the goal, the home team used a more aggressive approach. But the match seemed to go into extra time as neither team scored another goal. However, Valencia striker Hugo Duro, who assisted on the first goal, hit again just before the full-time. He scored a brilliant goal in the 79th minute of the game. So, the home team took the lead again. Anyway, Cadiz couldn’t score more in the remaining minutes. As a result, Valencia FC won the match, and have secured a place in the semifinals of Copa Del Rey.
