Women’s ODI: India won the series against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Women couldn’t defend the series at their home as India sealed the series by winning the first two matches. Sri Lanka Women have hosted a three-match ODI series against India. But they lost the first two games. Yesterday, India Women got a tremendous victory as they defeated the home team by 10 wickets. Bowler Renuka Singh won the Player of the Match award for taking four wickets of Sri Lanka.

Match Report

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India Women, won the toss at the Pallekele Stadium and decided to bowl first. The captain planned to take the Lankan wickets as early as possible. So she deployed her best bowlers in the first spell.

However, Hasini Perera and Vishmi Gunaratne came off the pitch to start the innings for Sri Lanka. But India hit in the very first over as Renuka Singh picked up the wicket of Hasini Perera. Hasini Perera returned to the pavilion without scoring any runs for the team. After that, Sri Lanka became very slow in picking runs.

Despite being very defensive, Sri Lanka couldn’t hold the wicket. This time, Renuka Singh hit again. She took the wicket of Vishmi Gunaratne in the 5th over. Then Chamira Athapaththu, the captain of Sri Lanka, tried to build a partnership with Harshita Madhavi. But they failed to do so as Harshita Madhavi returned to the pavilion without scoring runs. As a result, Sri Lanka lost three wickets in 11 runs.

However, the Lankan skipper added 31 runs with the new batter, Anushka Sanjeewani. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make the partnership big as the skipper lost her wicket in the 16th over. Anyway, Ama Kanchana played a very crucial innings for Sri Lanka. She remained not out in 47 runs. But the remaining batter couldn’t contribute much. As a result, Sri Lanka became all out in 173 runs.

Chasing down a small target, India Women had a flying start. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, the two openers of India, dominated from the beginning of the match. Both players picked up half-centuries in this match. Moreover, they chased the target in 26 overs as Sri Lanka couldn’t take any wickets of India. As a result, India won the 2nd ODI by 10 wickets. Shefali Verma scored 71, while Smriti Mandhana added 94 runs on the scoreboard.
