Women’s T20: Australia beat India

Australia Women’s Cricket played a match against India Women today as the warm-up for the upcoming World Cup. At Newlands Cricket Ground, Australia defeated India by 44 runs.

Toss: Meg Lanning, the T20 captain of the Australia Women’s team, won the toss and opted to bat first.

Australia had a poor start but recovered well

Winning the toss, Australia started their batting innings with Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning. Unfortunately, the Aussies had a poor start today against India. Captain Meg Lanning had gone duck as she lost her wicket to Shikha Pandey in the 2nd over.

Indian women dominated the Aussies in the power play. They had a brilliant spell in the first ten overs. In the 4th over, Shikha Pandey got her 2nd wicket. This time, she picked up Tahlia McGrath. After that, Ellyse Perry stepped in but failed to stay long. She departed the crease in the same over after being run out.

But opener Beth Mooney remained very calm on the pitch. She had an effective partnership with Ashleigh Gardner on the sixth wicket. Together they picked up 44 runs to handle the initial disaster. Their partnership was looking good.

It seemed Australia could set a big target for India. But India took control of the match after the 10th over. Due to Indian aggressive bowling, Australia lost four wickets between 10 to 16 overs. However, Georgia Waheram and Jess Jonassen played a vital role in the lower order. Both were not out today against India. Their 50-run partnership helped Australia to score 129 runs in 20 overs.

Australia destroyed the Indian top order

Defending the small target, the Australian bowlers brought a flying start for the team. Kim Garth picked up the first wicket in the very first over. After that, Darcie Brown started showing her skill. She picked up two wickets in the 2nd over.

Because of the Aussies’ aggression, the top four batters of India couldn’t score ten runs combined. Darcie Brown was on fire today. She alone destroyed the Indian batting lineup, taking four wickets. After that, India couldn’t fight back at Newlands Cricket Ground and ended their innings with 85 runs. As a result, Australia Women won the warm-up match by 44 runs.
