Women’s T20 International Match: India beat Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Women’s team welcomed India Women’s team to play a three-match T20 series. The series started today with the first match at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. However, India Women won the first match by 34 runs.

Match Report

Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of India Women, won the toss and decided to bat first in the first match. So, Shefali Varma and Smriti Mandhana came off the pitch to start the batting innings for the visitors. But the home team had a great start at Rangiri Dambulla. In the 4th over, Sri Lanka picked up two batters of India as Oshadi Ranasinghe took the wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghana.

But, opener Shefali Varma tackled the initial disaster with the skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur. Together they added 39 runs on the scoreboard. It seemed they could make a long partnership. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen as Shefali Varma lost the wicket to Chamari Athapaththu in the 10th over. However, she scored 31 runs before losing the wicket.

However, the captain contributed 22 runs for the team. Before her departure in the 11th over, she hit three boundaries. In addition, Jemimah Rodrigues played an important innings in the lower order. She scored the highest 36 off 27 balls for team India. She also remained not out in this match. Anyway, India Women set a target of 139 runs for the home team.

Defending the score, India Women had a great start. They didn’t have to wait long to pick the first wicket of Sri Lanka. In the 2nd over, Deepti Sharma took Vishmi Gunaratne’s wicket. After that, skipper Chamari Athapaththu tried to handle the situation with the new player, Harshita Madavi. They looked very concerned on the pitch. But despite playing defensively, Sri Lanka lost another wicket as the skipper had to go back to the pavilion in the 7th over. Moreover, Harshia Madavia also returned to the pavilion in the same over.

Anyway, Kavisha Dilhari fought for her life to win the match. She tried very hard to chase the target. But, the remaining batters couldn’t stay longer. As a result, Sri Lanka lost the match by 34 runs. However, Kavisha Dilhari remained not out in 47 runs.
