The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has seen another upset as Zimbabwe beat Pakistan, one of the favorites in this tournament, in a thrilling match. Last night, Zimbabwe stunned Pakistan at the Optus Stadium, defeating them by only one run. The defeat sees Pakistan at the bottom of the table. They have failed to earn a single point after playing two games. Now, Pakistan must win all their remaining games to go to the semi-final.

As it happened

Pakistan lost their first game in this world cup against India. That is why they were very determined to get full points from the match against Zimbabwe. However, Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine won the toss and decided to bat first in this match.

Therefore, Zimbabwe started their batting innings with Wesley Madhevere and Craig Ervine. The Zimbabwean innings got off to a flying start against Pakistan’s heavy bowling line-up. Both openers were hitting boundaries. They added 42 runs in the opening wicket. However, their partnership broke when Haris Rauf picked up Craig Ervine in the 5th over. Wesley Madhevere also lost his wicket in the next over.

Milton Shumba, the following batter, failed to contribute much as he departed the crease, scoring only 8-runs. Besides, Sean Williams played a crucial role for the Zimbabwean. He scored the highest 31 runs from 28 balls. Sean Williams led the team towards a big score. But, Shadab Khan stopped him in the 14th over by taking the wicket. The remaining batters couldn’t make a notable score. Therefore, Zimbabwe ended their innings with 130 runs.

Chasing the target, Pakistan had a poor start. The openers failed once more to create a good opening partnership. Captain Babar Azam lost his wicket in the 4th over, while Mohammad Rizwan departed the crease with 14 runs.

Shan Masood once again stepped forward to handle the disaster. He made a partnership of 52 runs with Shadab Khan. Their partnership was looking good, but Sikandar Raza changed the scenario. He gave a breakthrough by taking the wicket of Shadab Khan.

Further, Pakistan’s pressure increased when Shan Masood lost his wicket. In the 16th over, Shan Masood left the crease with 44 runs. However, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim helped the team to get closer to the target. In the last over, Pakistan needed only 11 runs. Unfortunately, they were able to pick up nine runs from that over. As a result, Zimbabwe won this match by one run.
