After that, Najmul Hasan tried to build a partnership with the experienced batter, Mushfiqur Rahim. Together they added 50 runs on the scoreboard. But Wesley Madhevere didn’t let them make a long partnership as he picked up Mushfiq’s wicket. A few moments later, Najmul Hossain Shanto also returned to the pavilion. It seemed Bangladesh couldn’t make a challenging target. But Mahmudullah Riyad added a very effective 80 runs at the lower order, which helped Bangladesh to score 290 runs in this match.

Defending the target, Bangladesh had a flying start. Pacer Hasan Mahmud got a wicket in the very first over. He picked up T. Kaitano in his 3rd ball. Furthermore, Bangladesh got two more wickets in eight overs. The target became very difficult to chase down for the home team. Then the scenario started changing.

Sikandar Raza and the skipper, Regis Chakabva, took responsibility for the team. They made an incredible partnership in the middle order. Together they added 200 runs on the scoreboard. However, Sikandar Raza remained not out in 117 runs. Depending on their partnership, Zimbabwe chased the target in 48 over. As a result, the home team won the first ODI series against Bangladesh after nine years.
