Match Report

Aaron Finch won the toss in the 1st T20 and decided to bowl first. So, the visiting team started batting with Charles and Kyle Mayers. They tried to become aggressive but couldn’t stay long on the crease. West Indies lost their first wicket in the 2nd over as Johnson Charles departed the pitch after scoring only three runs.

After that, Kyle Mayers tried to build a partnership with the new batter, Brandon King. Together they added 34 runs on the scoreboard. It seemed they would make a big score for West Indies. But Josh Hazlewood picked up Brandon King to break their partnership. Brandon King scored 12 runs before leaving the crease.

Aussie pacers Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pet Cummins were on fire against the Caribbean batters. It became very difficult for the visiting team to face these pacers of Australia. Therefore, West Indies kept losing their wickets in the match. Kyle Mayers scored the highest 39 runs from 36 balls. The remaining batters couldn’t contribute much to the team. West Indies ended their innings in 145 runs due to the aggression of Aussie bowlers. Josh Hazlewood picked up three, while Pet Cummins and Mitchell Starc got two wickets each.

Chasing the target, Australia lost their first wicket in the 2nd over, like West Indies. Opener David Warner departed the crease after scoring 14 off 6 balls. The next two betters also failed to get runs. Moreover, Glenn Maxwell and Tim David went back to the pavilion without scoring any runs.

At that point, it seemed West Indies could tie up Australia before 130. But Aussie skipper Aaron Finch remained very calm on the pitch. He kept scoring runs to chase the target. He scored the highest 58 runs for the home team. In addition, Mattew Wade played a vital role in the middle order. His unbeaten 39 off 29 balls helped Australia to chase the target with one ball left. Relying on his bat, Australia won the first match of the series by three wickets.
