Finally, Manchester United have got a crucial victory in the Premier League’s new campaign. Last night, they defeated their biggest rival, Liverpool FC, at Old Trafford. This victory against Liverpool ends Liverpool’s 21 matches unbeaten run in the Premier League. In addition, Man United have gone one point ahead of Liverpool after this match.

As It Happened

Liverpool and Manchester United faced off last night at Old Trafford to look for their first victory in the new campaign. In this match, Man United boss Erik Ten Hag made some big decisions. He changed four players compared to the last game.

But the surprising thing was the manager benched Cristiano Ronaldo and the skipper, Harry Maguire. Instead of them, Erik Ten Hag deployed Elanga in the front and Lisandro Martinez in the back. On Liverpool’s side, Jurgen Klopp played his team in a 4-3-3 formation.

Man United received tremendous support from the gallery as the home team, which boosted their performance. As a result, Man United dominated the first 20 minutes. They were more aggressive than the visitors. Moreover, Manchester United could have scored a goal in the 10th minute if Elanga’s bullet shot didn’t hit the post.

But, the home team didn’t have to wait much to take the lead. Jadon Sancho scored a stunning goal in the 16th minute with the help of Anthony Elanga. Conceding the goal, Liverpool tried hard to find the equalizer. But Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were rock solid in defense. Depending on them, Manchester United went to the interval with a one-goal lead.

Following the break, Liverpool went an all-out attack to find the equalizer. But that created a chance for Man United to make a counterattack. Striker Marcus Rashford scored a brilliant goal in the 56th minute with Martial’s assist. However, Mohammad Salah scored one in the 81st minute. But they couldn’t score more in the remaining minutes. As a result, Manchester United sealed the victory at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s Reaction

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag got his first EPL victory with this match. He shared his thoughts on the match in the post-match press briefing. He said, “I wanted a different approach, I wanted a different attitude, and that is what they bring on the pitch. That’s what makes me satisfied but it is only the start, we have to keep humble, but I think we can play a bit better if we have a little bit more composure, give an extra pass, we can be much more dangerous, because, as I said, we have good players with good ability, with good spirit and you will act.”
