Zimbabwe have hosted a two-match test series against West Indies that started on February 4 at Queens Sports Club. The opening game in the series got underway on February 4 and is now on its fourth day.
Toss: Kraig Brathwaite, the captain of the West Indies, won the toss and decided to bat first.
1st Innings of West Indies
Winning the toss, West Indies started their innings with T. Chanderpaul and the skipper, Brathwaite. From the beginning, the two openers tried to settle down between the wickets. Both batters played some fantastic cover drives and hit massive sixes.
Moreover, Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul have set a new record in their first innings. They made a record-breaking partnership on the opening wicket for the Caribbeans. Brathwaite and Chanderpaul added 336 runs in the opening wicket, making the highest partnership for West Indies.
However, captain Brathwait lost his wicket after scoring 182 runs, while Chanderpaul didn’t miss the double century. Before leaving the pitch Chanderpaul scored the highest 207 runs for the team. West Indies declared their first innings with 447 runs based on these two massive scores.
1st Innings for Zimbabwe
The home also had a strong start in response to West Indies. Innocent Kaia and Tanunurwa Makoni added 63 runs on the scoreboard in the 1st wicket partnership. Although Tanunurwa Makoni departed the pitch after scoring 33 runs, Innocent Kaia got a half-century in this innings.
But Chamu Chibaba and Craig Ervine, the following two batters, failed to contribute much. They added only 23 runs combined. However, Gray Ballance played a vital role in the middle order. He fought til the last to make a good score for the team.
With 12 fours and 2 sixes, Gray Ballance scored the highest 137 runs for the home team. Relying on his unbeaten 137, Zimbabwe declared their innings with 379 runs, 68 runs behind the Caribbeans.
2nd Innings of West Indies
Today, West Indies started their second innings in the last session of Day 4. Brathwaite and Chanderpaul added 21 runs together. However, both are not out so far and will start Day 5 tomorrow.
