India sealed the ODI series against New Zealand

India have hosted a three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The series started on 18 January, but India have secured the series today by winning the 2nd match against the Kiwis. Today, they defeated New Zealand by eight wickets to secure the ODI series.

As it happened

India took the lead in the series by winning the first game. Today, they had the chance to win the series, and they did it anyway. India faced New Zealand today at the Raipur Stadium to play the 2nd game.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, on the toss and decided to bowl first. Therefore, The Black Caps started their batting innings with Finn Allen and Devon Conway. New Zealand were very determined to level the series by winning this game. Unfortunately, their start was not good enough. New Zealand lost their first wicket in the very first over as Mohammad Shami bowled out Finn Allen.

After that, Conway and Henry Nicholls tried to build a partnership. But they also failed to do so. They hardly faced Indian bowlers in the powerplay. Despite being defensive, they couldn’t survive long. Indian pacers were on fire today against the Kiwis. Their first spell was fantastic.

Because of the Indian pacers’ aggression, New Zealand lost five wickets in 15 runs. India’s pacers took the first five wickets of New Zealand.

Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, and Mitchel Santner tried hard in the lower order to make runs. Phillips scored the highest 36 runs before losing the wicket, Bracewell scored 22, and Santner added 27 runs. Relying on these runs, New Zealand scored 108 runs.

Chasing the small target, India had a flying start. Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill picked up 72 runs in the opening partnership. With two sixes and seven fours, Rohit Sharma scored a half-century today. He was looking good but lost the wicket in the 15th over.

After that, Virat Kohli stepped in and scored 11 runs before leaving the pitch. But Shubhman Gill chased the target with Ishan Kishan. Gill remained not out in 40 runs, while Ishan Kishan added an unbeaten 8 runs to win the match.
