English club Chelsea FC have sacked their manager, Thomas Tuchel, following the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League. Thomas Tuchel has won three major trophies during his time at Chelsea, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Chelsea FC released a statement regarding Tuchel’s departure saying, “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and Club World Cup in his time here. As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.”

Tuchel’s mistakes: what went wrong?

Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea FC in 2021, replacing Frank Lampard. He got tremendous success in his debut season as he won the UEFA Champions League in the first year. He also conquered the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. But his relationship with the club became complicated since Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club. Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, was not convinced by Tuchel’s plan.

However, Chelsea spent £273m during the last summer transfer window, which was the most in a single window. The Blues signed ten players with this money. But Chelsea’s performance is not going well in the EPL and the UCL. Chelsea have won just two of their previous six games. They are also out of the top four in the EPL table, having played six games.

Defensive Instability

Tuchel’s first achievement at Chelsea was to make the defense more solid. It was difficult for the opponents to score against Chelsea. The Blues conceded only 24 goals in the first 50 games under Thomas Tuchel. But the story changed in the next 50 games, where the Blues conceded 53 goals. The stats say Chelsea’s defense have become shaky day by day.
